June Blog

As my grandchildren come to the last days of their school year with anticipation of summer vacation I thought of a little "rhyme" we used to say at the end of the school year.  Maybe you remember it as well.

No more pencils

No more books

No more teachers' dirty looks.

The rhyme brings back all kinds of memories.  I remembered what it was like to be a child and the excitement of getting out of school and having a break from the normal routine.  The end of school was also a rite of passage that marked time and a stage of life: the last day of kindergarten, last day of elementary school, junior high, high school, college.  The excitement is often tempered by a feeling of uncertainty of what's next.  The first day of school you might have been excited and a little bit afraid, not knowing what to expect.  The last day of school you have come to know what to expect and now that it is over, the future lies ahead with its unpredictability, sometimes producing anxiety.  School's out and we're excited, but also uncertain of what the future holds.

People of faith are not immune to the anxiety change brings.  What we claim and hold onto is the God who is with us in the midst of change, the One who will never stop loving us, and always be with us.  As the writer of the hymn, "Be Still My Soul," put it, "In every change God faithful will remain."  We may not know what the future holds, but we know who holds the future.  We can walk forward into the future knowing God will be our God.  We put our trust in the Lord and walk in faith.

One last thing.  Summer is a busy time for most of us.  In the midst of all the activities you will be doing, let me encourage you to stay active in worship, which will be at 9:30 am beginning on Sunday, June 4, and when you're out of town why not plan to be a guest at another church.  Through all of the changes in life God is our constant, and it is important for us to stay connected to the One who sustains our lives.

God Bless You,

Pastor Becky
